Cross-contamination is one of the most common and easiest ways for the spread and transfer of germs and bacteria.
These disease-causing germs find spots in and around the various body openings apart from the skin that covers the whole of the human body. The aim is to eliminate these bacteria from outside the body and also prevent them from entering the body. This, however, can only be ensured by inculcating personal hygiene habits.
Steps to ensure good personal hygiene are as follows.
Bathe daily : washing the body thoroughly every day is probably the easiest and the most assured method to get rid of all germs and parasites dwelling on the body.
Hair wash : While a shower is a must daily, it is vital to have a hair wash with soap/shampoo at least once a week.
Brushing the teeth : Brush your teeth twice daily to avoid gum diseases and tooth decay. An excellent way to get rid of the germs that accumulate in the mouth is to brush your teeth after every meal.
Washing the hands : Hand washing is the most crucial of all hygiene habits. Wash your hands before and after eating anything, using the toilet and after any activities like playing, gardening, working, etc. You should wash your hands thoroughly with soap/handwash before cooking and preparing ingredients to cook. Germs tend to easily accumulate on the skin of the hands and under the nails.
Washing clothes thoroughly with soap : Dirt should be washed off from clothes by cleaning them with detergent and soap thoroughly. Germs settled on them are easily transferable to other surfaces and people.
Covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing : Also, a sign of proper etiquette, covering your mouth while coughing or sneezing, prevents the spread of germs in the air or transferred to other people when they breathe or touch any surface.
Avoiding overcrowded places : Though this may at times not be possible, crowded places are the worst sources of germ transfer. People living in overcrowded homes also face the same problem; hence a sharp sense of hygiene needs to be maintained.
Efficient sewage system : All waste and discards need to be let off from the house through adequately covered channels. This creates a fresh and clean environment to live in and prevents the spread of germs and diseases.
Germs and bacteria have a very high multiplication rate, and thus it is crucial to nip their existence in the bud as quickly as possible.
Ensuring personal hygiene thus ensures that you steer clear of any possible contamination while also keeping those around you safe.
